Tips and Troubleshooting

Why is my compressor not turning on?
First, make sure your compressor is properly plugged in and that the on/off switch is in the “on” position. Excess air in the hose can cause a compressor to stall until the air is released. If this is the case, press the trigger to let any excess air out of the hose. Another factor to consider is how long you’ve been running your compressor. If your compressor has been on for quite a while, the motor can overheat, causing the compressor to shut off and stall until it has had enough time to cool down. Give the compressor some time to rest before starting up again.

How do I keep my compressor from overheating?
The best way to keep the compressor from overheating is to not let your compressor run when you are not actively using it. You should also keep it away from heat sources.

Why is my airbrush spraying air but not paint?
This is a definite sign that your airbrush needs cleaning. Start by checking and cleaning the needle and nozzle caps on the front of the airbrush. If this fails to solve the problem, you will have to take your airbrush apart and give it a thorough cleaning. If after cleaning the problem persists, then it could be sign that you have a damaged part, so check your nozzle for any cracks or breaks in parts that may need to be replaced.

My airbrush is spitting – rather than spraying – paint. Why is this happening?
If the paint you are using is too thick or if the pressure on your compressor is too low, your airbrush could start to spit. If that is not the problem, you may have a damaged part. Check your nozzle for any cracks or breaks. If it is broken, you will have to replace it.

Why is my airbrush clogging?
Clogging occurs when product is left in your airbrush for a long period of time and dries out. Be vigilant about cleaning your airbrush properly and consistently, and make sure that you are using the correct model airbrush for your needs. For example, when working with S/B, you’ll achieve best results by using a dual-action airbrush with a .3mm - .35mm needle size.

Why do I have air bubbles appearing in the color cup?
A dirty clogged nozzle cap will cause this to happen, so make sure that your airbrush is properly cleaned. Another possible cause of these bubbles could be a bent or cracked nozzle, in which case the part will need to be replaced.

Should I take my airbrush apart every time I finish a job?
No, it is not necessary to take the airbrush apart after every use. A good, thorough rinsing should be sufficient, using the recommended cleanser for the paint you are applying.

Why is it that when I press down on the trigger, no air comes out?
This could be the result of a damaged valve, in which case you will have to consult an airbrush repair person for repair or part replacement.

Why does the trigger feel stuck when I press down on it?
This is caused when paint gets lodged and dries around the piston, preventing it from moving freely. Remove the trigger from the airbrush and if the piston of your airbrush lies directly below where the trigger sits, remove it, clean it, lubricate it and replace it.
